The term lifestyle photography is getting pretty popular these day. It sounds a little jazzier than family portraits or something like that. For some families though I think there is no better way to describe the type of photography that I’m doing. The Blundys have a real appreciation for photography and also for recording/documenting their family and their lifestyle. I think that’s awesome and I’m already seeing the changes in Nic and looking forward to many more. Don’t go growing up too fast though Nic! Not too long ago I shot football for a very talented young football player. He’s quite the athlete and scored a goal in a hockey game shortly after this game. GO JORDAN!

What a game we had in Michigan to close-out the high school regular season. Two undefeated teams played what has come to be an annual grudge match. Good game and now the real season starts for both teams.
What got me thinking was the image above. When does a bad picture become a good picture. Sometimes even a terrible picture can become a amazing picture. Well, when? The image above to me is what I consider to be a bad picture. BUT, if it REALLY was then of course I wouldn’t post it let alone write about it. As the daylight hours shorten in the fall it’s pretty tough to get images of the same quality that you could get early in the season. You need light to get crisp frozen action shots. The shot above wasn’t very sharp, kinda grainy, but it captures the action and tells the story. If the image can tell the story to the viewer then that’s when it becomes a good picture. If it tells an amazing story then it can still be a great picture. WoW, what a tangent! I’m thankful most of my images can tell a story and be high quality too!
STORY: The image above was a 66 yard touchdown catch during one of the biggest high school games IN THE COUNTRY.

I recently photographed the first annual Ronald McDonald House of Grand Rapids Gala event. This year the event was held at The Egypt Valley Country Club and the event was attended by many local celebrities, TV personalities and politicians. The main focus of the event was to raise funds to support the house throughout the year. What a great cause. Learn more about the even and what is offered by the house at their regional site by clicking HERE.

I was recently commissioned by Nederveld Associates to create artistic architecture pieces for their new office in downtown Grand Rapids. Nederveld is a broad based architectural company with some very creative people that are extremely great to work with on a project. The 12 pieces that we created turned out great and were completed just in time for thier open house.
You might remember that I was recently in Freemont, Michigan for the wedding of Chris and Lisa. Fremont is the home of Gerber Baby Foods as well as the “Gerbers”. Interestingly enough I was back in town for a wedding at the Gerber Guest House. This a great location for a personal ceremony and reception. Doug and Cheryl were married and had a touching ceremony followed by a “family dinner”. It was exactly what they wanted. As long as I get my creative time with the Bride and Groom THEN it’s exactly what I want too! This has been a great season with nice amounts of creative time and it has really shown (to me at least) in my blog images. I hope you enjoy the shot from this wedding BY CLICKING HERE, or the image above.
The 2nd annual Priority Health Cycling Classic was held in Grand Rapids a couple weekend ago. I showed-up with Dan Socie to capture the race. It’s great when you double-up on coverage because you get to cover a lot of really cool angles. If you know cycling photography then I think you would agree that we kicked it up a few notches. Drop me an e-mail if you like what you see. Thanks Dan for putting together the slideshow.

So, we’ve been pretty busy around here at David Chandler Photography. It’s all taking it’s toll on the girls and Ellery in particular has been having some rough mornings. If it weren’t for some Organic Coffee in the Keurig Coffee Maker I’m not sure what we would do.

She’s pretty proud of herself. (Don’t worry it was empty and I’m super careful about hot coffee). Hard to tell that my girls are loved eh?

Multiple overtimes and a state championship on the line and the East Grand Rapids Pioneers came-out on top. That was last year and the highly touted rematch game was an amazing game but severely lopsided in favor of the Pioneers. I was at the game and was able to capture some of the games top plays. The image above for the yet another touchdown. Hopefully, I’ll be covering a lot more of the games this season. It’s pretty nice walking up the road to such amazing football. What will you find when you travel to White Cloud, Michigan then drive out to an even smaller area know as Jugville? A cool place called The Shack. There is nothing “shacklike” about this place and it is very quite and beautiful with an enormous grounds. It also had everything that Chris and Lisa were looking for on their wedding day. Of course I enjoyed the laid back nature which gave me plenty of time to capture them enjoying each other in all of these cool spots.
